Coming Soon- Hanuman's Shadow: Echoes of Laos and America

"Hanuman’s Shadow: Echoes of Laos and America" is a devised theatre piece that intertwines the mythical tale of Hanuman from the Lao version of the Ramayana with real-life historical events that connect Laos and the United States—events that have remained largely untold or misunderstood by the wider public. By exploring the character of Hanuman, known for his strength, loyalty, and cunning, the project delves into Laos' history, its relationship with the U.S., and the impact of these hidden stories on today’s world.

The project blends traditional Lao storytelling, movement, and physical theatre with contemporary accounts and historical research. This fusion of ancient myth and modern history aims to shed light on the nuanced and complex interactions between Laos and America, particularly focusing on the consequences of U.S. foreign policy, cultural erasure, and the resilience of the Lao people.

"Hanuman’s Shadow: Echoes of Laos and America" gives me the opportunity to focus on my own creative vision, exploring my Lao heritage and the untold histories that have shaped my identity. It challenges me to combine my love of physical theatre, mask work, and bilingual storytelling, pushing the boundaries of my artistic practice. By intertwining myth with historical events, I’m able to engage with themes of resilience, marginalization, and identity in a way that connects my personal experience to larger cultural and historical narratives.
